Yesterday I bought my first Playstation 2. It was a defective unit, one that could not read DVD-based media. However I had heard the stories over the years about how this is easy to fix with a laser realignment. This may be true in many circumstances, but not in mine - the unit's DVD laser is kaput, and is in need of replacement. Trust me, I completely disaasembled the thing to get to the laser voltage controls, I know. (Lousy SCPH-50001 model.) So since I can only play games/music on CDs, that leaves me with PlayStation games and blue-bottom PS2 games.
But despite my searching, I cannot for the life of me find a list of CD-based PS2 games on the Internet. Being the game 'historians' that we are, I decided that if it has not been made already, we at Digital Press should take it upon ourselves to make the definitive list of PS2 CD discs! Who here has some of these games, and which are they? -The List So Far- NA - North America. 4x4 Evolution All-Star Baseball 2002 Aqua Aqua Arctic Thunder Army Men Green Rogue Barbarian Bass Strike Battle Gear 2 Bible Game, The Bloody Roar 3 Blowout Bomberman Kart Capcom vs. This was pulled of of a PS2 Forum, there are some definitely missing: Playstation 2 Cd Games All-Star Baseball 2002 Arctic Thunder Army Men Green Rogue Barbarian Bass Strike Battle Gear 2 Biohazard Code: Veronica Bloody Roar 3 Bomberman Kart Capcom vs. Here are a few that I have: Silpheed: The Lost Planet Castle Shikigami 2 Gradius III & IV Gradius V Blowout Contra Shattered Soldier Maximo Ghosts to Glory Rune: Viking Warlord Okage Shadow King Sub Rebellion Growlanswer Generations Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land Heroes of Might and Magic: Quest for the Dragon Bone Staff ICO Godai Elemental Force Risk Global Domination Dynasty Warriors 2 Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII Ring of Red P.T.O.
IV GunGriffon Blaze WinBack Covert Operations Hard Hitter Tennis. Went through my modest collection and made a list of all the blue disc games I had, compared it to the above list, and deleted the ones already mentioned.
Here's what's left: Contra: Shattered Soldier Gradius V Mad Maestro Mister Mosquito Mobile Light Force 2 Stretch Panic Super Bust-a-move 2 Trigger Man Zapper No big surprises really. I'd imagine Gradius III+IV is also blue disc, but I can't confirm. Conversely, despite the two Fresh Games releases on this list, R-Type Final is in fact a silver disc. Wish I could be more helpful, but at 110 games I just don't own much.

I don't want to open mine just yet.Yep, quite sure. In fact, the back of my Mobile light force box says Compact Disc! I can't imagine there were two print runs of this game. Anyways, I'd never Claim it without submitting the proof - image of both the back of the box and the CD. COuld this be our first DVD/CD discrepancy? Ohhh mysterious! Strange though how the case indicates it as a DVD-Rom in the same location where yours states compact disc. Ok after talking to a THQ rep, which distributes Capcom games in Australia, He stated that Capcom Vs SNK was on DVD due to the fact that they had too many complaints regarding the loud noise that PS2's (at the Time) made and opted for the dvd format, even though it meant slower load times.
Not sure if its legit or not but who knows? It is funny that they opted for this if it is true becasue they went back for the CD based format for Marvel Vs Capcom 2. After further inguiries he stated that although rare there are a few games that get releases on both CD and DVD in different regions.
